Life Cycle Comic Strip! (Grade 1-4)
This activity combines language arts and science. In this activity the students will read about the lifecycle of an earthworm, and will then illustrate their knowledge by creating an earthworm comic strip (using yard and popcorn seeds). Worksheets are included. |
Earthworm Reproduction Demonstration (K-Grade 12)
This demonstration will help you animate earthworm reproduction using common household items (socks, cotton balls, bath beads). This demonstration is easy to do and is quite comical. |
The Ground and Mail (Grade 7-9)
In this activity, students will compare and contrast two soil organisms: the earthworm and the mole. They will retrieve their information from the latest edition of The Ground and Mail (supplied). Student worksheets and correction page provided. |
How Ernie and I Met (Grade 3-6)
This is a great activity to introduce Worm Watch to your class as it gives a nice overview of earthworm biology and ecology. Students will discover life as an earthworm by reading the poem How Ernie and I Met. The poem provided is quite funny, scientifically correct, AND can easily be animated with a sock puppet and a southern drawl. |
Creating Healthy Soil! (Grade 9-12)
This is a great way to complete your Worm Watch experience since this activity provides a nice overview of the interactions between soil flora, fauna and man. This activity begins with a trivia game and then students will use the information provided in the article Creating Healthy Soil! to answer a series of questions. |
| The activity below was not created by Worm Watch, but it compliments some of the Worm Watch activities. We therefore decided to include it
in our activities section. |
Taxonomic key
This activity contains a really cute exercise on the use of dichotomous keys. In this activity students will use a dichotomous key to identify a variety of shop fasteners (i.e. screws, nails, etc.). |
