WEED INVASION

Lisa Scott

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

This chapter was based partially on an assessment of weed invasion in the south Okanagan and lower Similkameen valleys (Scott 1997b) initiated as part of the South Okanagan Ecosystem Recovery Plan and funded by the Habitat Conservation Trust Fund. The assessment of weed invasion formed part of a Scientific Assessment which outlines the present situation in the south Okanagan ecosystem, providing baseline data essential for future management plans, decisions and monitoring (Cannings 1997).

Particular thanks go to John Pinder-Moss (Royal BC Museum), Olivia Lee (UBC Herbarium) and Roy Cranston (Provincial Weed Specialist, BC Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food) for providing weed collection records. Many thanks as well to Phil Youwe (Range Resource Agrologist, BC Ministry of Forests), Dave Ralph (Provincial Weed Technician, BC Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food), John Pethybridge (Range Officer, BC Ministry of Forests), Allan Peatt (Habitat Protection Branch, BC Environment), Anthea Bryan (Consulting Biologist), and Chris Toney (Division of Biological Science, University of Montana) for their comments and contributions.
