ABSTRACT

A review of the literature containing references to “mushrooms” (agarics, boletes, chanterelles) reported from either Ontario or Quebec is given. From this review, data specific to the Mixedwood Plains Ecozone in Canada are discussed, a hierarchial classification of all gilled mushrooms in Canada is provided demonstrating that 80% of all genera are found in the Mixedwood Plains, and individual case studies or examples are provided to elucidate the special mycota in the ecozone. A comprehensive listing of all species does not exist and is not provided here. The number of taxa involved is in the thousands but details are lacking.
