IMPACT IN HUMAN ACTIVITIES

Bird populations are highly influential in all environmentally-based industries. Agriculture and forestry offer good examples of that important relationship. This reflects the importance of the biological role bird perform in maintaining ecological systems (plant disease control and dispersal, population control of terrestrial and aquatic fauna, seed dispersal, etc.).

Birds constitute a primary focus of the multi-billion dollar wildlife recreation industry in Canada, including non-consumptive activities such as birding, bird feeding, wildlife photography, etc. and consumptive activities like hunting and aboriginal food gathering (Filion et al. 1989).
